Japan has a population of ~ 300 million and is one of the most advanced and wealthiest nations on Earth.

I am sure those affected need help but what makes you think others can provide help better/faster then Japan itself can?

Perhaps the US navy has lifting capacity that Japan could use, but what else?

Actually, the population of Japan is about 127 million.

Huh, where did I even get the 300 number? I was sure of it! Kids, don't trust your brain, check the facts you think you know!

127 million according to Wikipedia.

~300 million is the population of the US

We have 2.5x the population but 25x the landmass. That's an order of magnitude difference in population density. Now imagine a natural disaster.
